Maury Wills Died at age 89: Dodgers great and stolen-base champion !

Maury Wills, whose base stealing for the la Dodgers helped them win three world titles, died Monday at his home in Sedona, Arizona, based on the team. Wills was 89.

No reason for dying was handed.

Wills was area of the Dodgers’ World Series-winning teams in the rookie season of 1959 as well as in 1963 and 1965.

He spent 14 years within the major leagues – 12 of individuals seasons using the Dodgers. He was the 1962 National League Most Helpful Site as he brought the league having a then-major league record 104 stolen bases, besting Ty Cobb’s 1915 season of 96 stolen bases.

“Maury Wills was probably the most exciting Dodgers ever,” Kasten stated. “He altered baseball together with his baserunning making the stolen base a fundamental part of the sport. He was very instrumental in the prosperity of the Dodgers with three world titles.”

Wills brought the nation’s League in steals in every season from 1960 to 1965, as he stole 94 bases.

Wills also performed for that Pittsburgh Pirates and also the Montreal Expos and managed the San antonio Mariners for 2 seasons.

“Our game is lucky to possess had someone like Maury Wills,” the Mlb Players Alumni Association tweeted.

Wills this past year was named towards the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Golden Area Committee ballot, but wasn’t selected.
